The William F. Laman Public Library presents two outstanding events celebrating Black History Month – National Park Service Ranger and daughter of one of the Little Rock Nine, Spirit Trickey, and the Mabelvale Elementary School African Drum & Groove Ensemble, beginning at 6pm Tuesday, February 16th.
Spirit Trickey – Born and raised in northern Ontario, Canada, Spirit Trickey draws on traits inherited from her parents, both heavily involved in civil rights. She thrives on making a difference in the world and is very passionate about social justice. She is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and a minor in Journalism, and she is currently enrolled at the Clinton School of Public Service, working on her Master's Degree. In addition to her schooling she is producing a documentary, "Mixed Messages," after having toured with her award-winning play, "One Ninth," about her mother, Minnijean Brown Trickey, one of the Little Rock Nine.

The wizards at Kharma Consulting have been busy all weeknd working on the conversion of Argenta News for version 1.0 to 1.5. The conversion has required certain changes in the format and has enabled several improvements. A few of those changes you will see are listed below. The conversion should be up and running sometime Monday.
- There will be a spell checker for me and any other post author
- All of the old stories archived going back over three years were converted and still may be accessed
- The photographs older than 2008 were not converted to save on space
- The old comments could not be converted
- The space for posts is larger for easier reading
- There will be spaces for 4 to 5 ads to make money
- The Argenta business listing will be moved to the toolbar and will be further segmented by type for easier look up
- The City and Argenta resouces tab on the tool bar will be combined and segmented in a drop down menu adding a Federal and State category

This weekend the wizards (and I use that term loosely) at Kharma Consulting will be uograding the web site software that runs Argenta News from version 1.0 to version 1.5. I have been putting off this upgrade for about a year and not running version 1.5 is catching up with problems in the web site operation. While this conversion is occurring, the posts will be light this weekend with only 2 or 3 posts each day.
No.... version 1.5 will not fix the ALL the spelling issues. Those are entirely operator based. I am hoping version 1.5 has a spellchecker though. Comments (1) |

Gravity will be defied and the limits of reality will be pushed as the Gravity Slashers invade Verizon Arena for two nights of intense competition tonight and tomorrow nightat 8:00 pm at Verizon Arena.
It's Freestyle Motocross - Cliffhangers! Sterilizers! Tsunamis! Hart Attacks! These may sound like accidents waiting to happen, but in reality, they’re some of the most astounding tricks you’ll ever see. In Freestyle Motocross, the name of the game is “anything goes” in this adrenaline-filled contest staged in mid-air. Riders launch their bikes off ramps that propel them towards the rafters, performing mind-bending acrobatic moves as they soar through the arena airspace. The only way to properly experience this spine-tingling sport is from the very edge of your seat, as these daredevils fly high overhead.

After members of 1st Presbyterian Church of Argenta were out at the Disaster Assistance Center at Ferncliff, sorting and packing health kits for Haiti, they all brought carloads of baby items back to the church to be made in to baby kits. These items have come from churches and organizations all over the country and they have all the supplies needed to make around 200 kits--with the exception of baby sweaters/pullovers.
So if you can bring a couple of cute little baby pullovers this Sunday or next, the church will have all they need to move forward to help hundreds in Haiti.
Thanks for your help! Be first to comment this article |

At a meeting Wednesday evening, the Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee also approved the specific location within Laman Plaza. The committee selected the knoll on the southeast corner of Orange Street and Pershing Boulevard.
"I was very pleased with the decision of the North Little Rock Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee last night," said Jeff Baskin, executive director of Laman Library. "I believe it to be the perfect location within Laman Library Plaza. The location will provide views of the memorial from not only the plaza, but from Orange Street and Pershing Boulevard. It will be visible from the police department, the post office and North Little Rock High School, as well as the library."
The photograph above is Laman Library Executive Director Jeff Baskin standing on the location of the proposed NLR Veterans Memorial on the Library grounds at the highly visible corner of Pershing and Orange Streets. Photo was taken by Michael Pirnique
